Paged Grid Control

A Paged Grid Control displays a page of records at a time.  Each record occupies one line, or row, on the grid.   The buttons on the right-hand side of the paged grid control allow the user to scroll thru records in the file.   Use the double-arrow buttons to move forward or backward through the file one page at a time.  Use the single-arrow buttons to more forward or backward through the file one record at a time.

To access the first record in the file, hold the shift key and click on the single-arrow button that points upward.

To access the last record in the file, hold the shift key and click on the single-arrow button that points downward.

Each row is made up of one or more columns. These are the individual fields for each record.

The user visits one “cell” on the grid at a time.  A cell is a single field (column)  on  a single row.  The user can navigate between cells using mouse clicks, the tab key, or the arrow keys.

To enter data in a grid, the user selects a cell, and then begins to type in data.  The grid then switches from “navigate” mode to “entry” mode.  While in entry mode, the user can right-click to access standard windows editing functions such as cut, copy, and paste.  Another way to switch to entry mode is to double-click on a cell in the grid.

When the New|Clear button is clicked, the grid is cleared so that the user can enter up to a page of records.   When the New|Add button is clicked, the system writes the page of records to the file.

When the Change|Open button is clicked, the user has update access to the page of records that is currently displayed on the grid.  The user can edit data, delete grid rows, and type in new data on grid lines that are currently empty.  When the Change|Update button is clicked, the changes are written to the file.

When in Add or Update mode, the user can click on a grid line to select the line, then right-click to see a pop-up menu for the grid.  The pop-up menu provides an option to delete the selected line, and might have a look-up option for one or more columns on the grid.
